Yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the screening of City of Dreams at the DGA Theater in NYC. Inspired by a true story, this powerful film chronicles the journey of a Mexican boy whose dreams of becoming a soccer star are tragically derailed. Smuggled across the border, he finds himself sold into a sweatshop in downtown Los Angeles.
Without giving away too much of the plot, let me just say—this is a must-watch. You can stream it now on Amazon Prime. City of Dreams is more than just a movie; it’s an emotional, heart-in-your-hand thriller that will stay with you long after the credits roll.

The event was made even more special by a Q&A session with the film’s director, Mo Ramchandani, who shared the fascinating story of how this movie came to life. I also had the chance to meet John Devaney, one of the executive producers and founder of Manor House Films. Their passion for storytelling and commitment to shedding light on underrepresented stories was inspiring.
City of Dreams is an eye-opening, deeply moving film that tugs at the heartstrings and sparks conversations. It’s a gripping reminder of resilience and humanity, and I can’t recommend it enough.
Catch you later, Rafaela Sa Kultgen.
